Felt slippers

I’m very proud of my little self for making this pair of felt slippers, even-though I’ve made a good few pairs now I’m always amazed by them they are just so sweet! Even if I do say so myself!!

Many people have asked how I made them so I thought I would have a go at a tutorial. When I started to write down every thing involved I realised what a long post it would be, so I have decided to post the tutorials in sections starting on Monday the 10th of march so by the end of next week the full instructions will be up.

If you want to have a go I’d love to see the results!

So for now here is a list of what you will need and some handy felting links. For fibers I use merino fibers which I got from fibercraft I found them to be really quick in dispatching it only took a couple of days for my big box to arrive. There is always ebay of course!

*Edit- I have since learned that, for adult and bigger kid slippers, a better type of fleece to use would be something like Swaledale, Herdwick or Welsh mountain as they make tougher felt. If you still wanted the softness of merino on you’re toes you could try a compromise and felt a separate sole from a tougher fleece.*

Here’s one for any Aussies out there, she also has felting tips for beginners on her site which is outbackfibers.com

Here is what you will need if you want to make a pair of slippers:

Your felting fibers in what ever colour you want

A good sturdy table preferably over a moppable floor (it gets wet!)

A stash of old towels

A pair of wellies at least one size bigger than the size you want your slippers to be (They shrink)

A sheet of bubble wrap ( mine is about 70×90cm )

Two sheets of tule (I call it net) the wide gauge stuff is best I think

An empty plastic milk bottle with holes poked in the lid

A bar of regular hand soap ( you could also use soap flakes )

If you don’t have a sink close by you should have a bucket handy for squeezing off extra soapy liquid.

So go forth and gather and Ill post the first instructions next Monday!

Bye for now

Caroline

these are so delightful, and I have all the ingredients except the wellies – I mean, mine are just the right size for me already, and Alan’s are size 11s! Maybe I can borrow some :-)
